A Shropshire Voluntary Sector Training Providers Consortium
The Community Council of Shropshire (CCS) has secured a grant from the Learning & Skills Council (LSC) to look into establishing a Voluntary Sector Training Providers Consortium for the county. If established, a consortium would provide a vehicle for securing funds (from the LSC & other funders) and managing contracts for training delivery. It could also take on further functions - like providing support for meeting quality standards and acting as an assessment centre. The development of a consortium is consistent with the LSC's approach to funding training delivered by the sector both regionally and nationally. The LSC has also recently funded similar work in Herefordshire & Worcestershire and Telford & Wrekin. As the work develops in Shropshire, it may be that opportunities occur for working alongside these other areas.
Richard Sowden has been appointed as an indpendent consultant to take a lead on the project, managed by Jean Garner at CCS. The Project will be completed by the end of March 2007 and will be made up of the following elements:
